For IMEA of 2024, I received and accepted the opportunity to be work crew. Although this position was less than a week, the manual labor was intense, and the hours
extremely long. However, it was incredibly rewarding. Most of what the crew did
was behind the scenes work, such as setting up and tearing down venues for student
concerts/rehearsals, as
well as moving and
managing equipment. This
meant that interaction
with students was limited,
but I still find the
experience to be relevant
simply because of the
perspective I gained, and
how that will impact my
teaching. In understanding
the work that goes on
behind the fancy concerts
that I will hopefully be
conducting some day, I will
be able to teach my students that music goes beyond what meets the eye, and be able to cultivate minds that respect and care for all people.
