About Me!
In the fall of 2023, I became a full-time student at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a plan to graduate with a Bachelors of Music in Instrumental/General Music Education and Instrumental Performance. My primary instrument is the clarinet, which I have been playing since 2016. Once I graduate, I hope to continue my education, but I am open to the idea of teaching alongside obtaining a masters in education. I love spending time around aspiring musicians, and I would hate to miss out on cultivating my mind and younger ones. I am most excited about working
with high schoolers, and specifically a program in Texas, but am open to other placements so long as I get to share music with others.
Outside of school, I enjoy activities that both involve music and are separate.
For music related activities, I have enjoyed volunteering for Music for All (MFA)
and working as a crew member for the Indiana Music Education
Association (IMEA). Of the volunteer work that I have, I most enjoy the aspect of
getting to play a part, however small, in at least one student's success.
This concept is best illustrated through my time with IMEA as a member of a
work crew, simply because of how much background work went into that
experience. It is wonderful to be on the podium and cultivate minds through
working with people face to face, but I have found that the nitty-gritty behind
the scenes work is just as important, and extremely enjoyable. When I’m not
trying to involve myself in phenomenal music organizations like MFA and
IMEA, I prefer to spend as much time as possible outdoors or learning
something new. For example, I have taken sociology courses
at my university back home out of the want to learn more, and usually spend a
considerable amount of time in the sun during the summer.
One of my favorite things about being in the world of music is the multitude of
different hats that I get to put on each day, even as I’m still traversing through collegiate education classes. Being able to go from a techniques class for an instrument I would’ve never picked up six months ago to an environment with middle schoolers where I am the lead proctor of a room is something that I really enjoy. Because I get to bounce between concepts that I love, I am able to constantly learn. As an educator, I hope that I am able to inspire other people to see the wonders of knowledge and humanity through music the same way that I get to each day.
